Re: PHOST Q&A Forum

Thanks for your patience guys.. another one :peek: : Note that the PBn friendly codes are considered special by PHost and will, therefore, never match for the purposes of combat, beam-gather, etc. Being considered special, will ships matching base PBn codes also resist a Force Surrender? As far as ...

Re: Tool to export messages in MDATAn.DAT

On second thought; c2export will help get start of turn data but I'll need to use something else to get end of turn data to make my mistake warning report (Like setting ships to Colonize instead of Cloak). Maybe the scripting language will work here as I expect it looks at the current game data ins...

Re: Tool to export messages in MDATAn.DAT

PCC or PCC2: W in the message reader to save one message, Ctrl+W to save all. From the command line: use mgrep (16-bit) or c2mgrep (32-bit, included with PCC2) to search for a string that appears in every message, so you export them all. For example, c2mgrep "(" path\to\game\player7.rst (every messa...

Re: Planetsserver

I wish I knew more than that... I remember them having a couple of crashes, and it was after the 2nd one that the forums disappeared... I wonder if they lost the data and that's why they haven't come back online. Has anyone talked to the admin recently? What I recall is that the forum ran on auto-p...

Re: PHOST Q&A Forum

Say I have an activity level >20 and PBP queue is being used. Does that mean I can build and clone in the same turn? In PHost, you cannot build two ships at one base during one turn, ever. Also, unlike in HOST, clone orders walk the build queue like all other build orders. That is, you CAN do a pri...

Re: PHOST Q&A Forum

In games using pwrap, when I try to intercept a ship on the 'other' side, will I end up with a waypoint across the map or does phost consider that? In games that use PHost's internal wrap feature (AllowWraparoundMap=Yes), PHost will consider that moving across a map seam may be shorter than moving ...

Re: Hosting Cementery

Do you remember other hostings that are not running anymore? To add to the cemetery: RCWorld closed, I think, last year. PBEMzone , EchoCluster.com and Gishost went away suddenly each during the last years. All of these are not focused, but probably still centered a bit in Germany. To add to the ma...

Re: Dan and Dave - Look its Dave

Really hoping to get everyone to check out the board game and if that goes well get the what will ammount to be a VGAP card game. VGAP card game? I made mine a few years ago, for a small real-life gathering of planeteers: http://phost.de/~stefan/planets/shipcards.pdf . It's played like Top Trumps (...

Re: VPA and (DosBox) batch files

Folder where my game is located: C:\games\VGAPlanets\planets\FedWar3 An important thing for VPA (and Dosplan, and PCC 1.x) users is to keep the file and directory names 8 characters or shorter, and avoid spaces. "VGAPlanets" is too long (that's why you used "VGAPlan" in your batch file). "Federatio...

Re: max distance

Take one of your ships with Transwarp drives, set it to warp 9, and give it a waypoint into open space exactly X=49 light years, and Y=71 light years away from its starting location. The game's configuration would be interesting, too. A waypoint of 49/71 gives a movement of 46.0083/66.66, which rou...

Re: max distance

Phost utilises a square warp well that extends 3 light years in each direction, which is slightly different to that of Tim's original host program. I believe Tim's original host program, 20 years ago, had square gravity as well, and was later changed to round. PHost offers both types using the Roun...

Re: industrial activity

What means a light, heavy, etc. industrial activity in numeric expression? How many mines and factories shall be according to each such classification? This is a VGA Planets feature, not a VPA feature. Answer can be found at DonovansVGAP site. http://www.donovansvgap.com/help/sensorsweep.htm It sho...

Re: VPA V3.66 Beta 3 released

First it needs a compiler. I've tried mingw but there were problems because it couldn't find an exe. And several files were not installed. Then i tried cygwin and that problem went away. Then it started complaining that couldn't find the include cstlib . I0ve managed to solve that. Then it wanted p...

Re: VPA V3.66 Beta 3 released

Wow. That goes beyond my knowledge. Netbeans is an IDE and it has a compiler and it also builds executables. not sure about the C++ version though. Netbeans is primarily an IDE for Java, and the Java Development Kit includes a free compiler. So it's not unreasonable that Oracle, the company who own...
