Win 8-64 work arounds?

Greetings. I am fighting running Win 7-32 at home and Win 8.1-64 at work and compatibility issues. I can get the DOS utilities I use to work under DOSBOX and Win 7, but I cannot get WinPlan and MakeTrn to run under Win 8.1-64. I did a work around using VMware Workstation, but I have to copy the entire WINPlan directory/subdirectories (utilities) and about twenty years worth of archival crap each time. Mostly not convenient and lending itself to screwing up once I get into multiple games and/or complex state of game.

Any suggestions? Been a while and I am definitely not up to speed...even on the tools I have at hand.

Thank you in advance.

I did get it installed on Win 8.1 64 using the expand... instructions and the setup. Is there an issue with the font size adjustment not working for anyone else?

Downloaded it, installed and have it working and DosBox for the old utilities. Having some issues with a "MSSTDFMT.DLL" missing or not registered on my machine. Related to digging around in Winplan32 and looking at its features. Came from the "Options" button when the Options and Settings screen popped up. Dropped another machines (Win-7) dll in but that didn't do the trick. If I keep to the straight and narrow, seems to work.

place the MSSTDFMT.DLL file in your C:\Windows\System\ folder

and register it (open command promp as administrator)
regsvr32.exe MSSTDFMT.DLL

That should solve your error.

I tried to use the msstdfmt.dll file from a Win 7-64 machine on a Win 8.1-64 machine. The regsvr32.exe command would not register the dll as incompatible. I need to determine what the incompatibility is and what dll to use (I presume).

place the DLL in

c:\windows\syswow64

then us a command prompt as admin

regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\msstdfmt.dll

My version looks as follows from my Windows 8.1 machine.

Directory of C:\Windows\SysWOW64

24/07/2006 10:50 AM 125,744 MSSTDFMT.DLL

If you would like a copy let me know and I can send it to you.

I'm using Window 7 x64. The version of the DLL I got was from a Microsoft Exchange 2000 tool here:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=12972

The DLL was said to be usable on both 32 and 64 bit platforms, it just depended where you put it. I used 7-zip to extract just the DLL from that tool and did not install it.

I see now, that DLL is also in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Service Pack 6 Cumulative Update found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=7030

So if your not sure how to extract files from an EXE, maybe that will be an easier fix. I can confirm that I only have one copy of that DLL on my computer and it is in c:\windows\syswow64

The version I have from the Exchange tool is:

26/03/1999 1:00 AM 118,784 bytes

So yeah, maybe Gavan has the best approach.

Try that again with the file I just sent you.

Otherwise Google says you put it in c:\windows\system32 instead of c:\windows\syswow64
