Post#1 » Wed Nov 12, 2014 1:25 am

Several games where ID of ships come up unknown, Is there a program that is friendly to VPA that can help ID ships?

Are you using a dosplan or winplan license with vpa? Thost or phost game?

That limits you to 50 targets. I'll write a small guide for you to get more VPA results when I get home tonight. I also use dosplan licences.

It is actually Host that pick up you have a Dos licence and then only give you a Dos RST file. The Dos RST files only have 50 targets in them.

VPA isn't the problem, is the DOS plan version you're using.

Ok, so let's get you rolling :-)

Mode 1: VPA with more than 50 targets support.
Tools required:
Dosbox: : http://sourceforge.net/projects/dosbox/ ... e/download
VPA: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vpa/fil ... P/download
PCC2: http://www.phost.de/~stefan/cc2/pcc2-1.99.22a-win32.zip

My structure:
[1] C:\games\vgaplan -> Everything planets related
[2] C:\games\vgaplan\planets -> Install folder for DOSPlan
[3] C:\games\vgaplan\planets\game1 -> Game files go here (xyplan.dat, .rst, etc)
[4] C:\games\vgaplan\PCC2\ -> Location for PCC2 files

Install Dosplan from your disks into [2] and run it once on any game [3] to make sure the file "fizz.bin" appears there.
This file contains your registration info and is needed for program to work.
Extract all files from the VPA zip file into [2]
Ectract all files from PCC2 into [4]

In location [3], create a batch file called "game1.bat" and fill it with the code below.
# is the race number you play, don't forget to substitute it.

Code: Select all

CD /D C:\games\VGAPlan\planets
IF EXIST game1\player#.rst C:\games\VGAPlan\PCC2\c2unpack -w # C:\games\VGAPlan\planets\game1
IF EXIST game1\player#.rst DEL game1\player#.rst
"C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox.exe" -conf "C:\games\VGAPlan\Planets\game1\dosbox-game1.conf" -noconsole -exit
CD /D C:\games\VGAPlan
PCC2\c2mkturn planets\game1
In location [3], copy the Dosplan conf file there and rename it "dosbox-game1.conf" and add to the conf file under the [autoexec] header:

Code: Select all

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
# You can put your MOUNT lines here.
mount c: C:\games\vgaplan\planets
c:
vpa # game1
exit
Now everytime you want to play the game, just run the game1.bat
PCC2 will unpack your RST, VPA will be used to make your turn, and PCC2 will be used to pack your TRN.
Fortunately PCC2 will change the TRN file into a VGAP 3.5 file, so the host will see you have a 3.5 version running and will send you the additional 50+ target support that DOSPlan cannot handle.

I hope this is understandable. I'll try to make a single ZIP, which can just be downloaded and run after putting in your own planet registration.

Oh jeez, I just read back my post and it's chaos :/

Short version:
Get PCC2 files.
Use VPA to make your turn. [in DOSBOX]
Then use c2mkturn to make your trn file the last time before sending it to the host. [Use windows command shell]
This turns your trn file into 3.5 (Winplan) format for the host.
So the host will send you back a 3.5 format RST file, which VPA can read.

That's it...
