JVC Guide

Didn't want to hijack the other thread anymore on nursing me through installing JVC.

I've copied the game folders into my Win 7 side and set up the JVC shortcut on my desktop. When I click on the shortcupt I get an "invalid type code: 00" message. Same thing happens clicking the JVC jar file directly.

Any suggestions?

Do you have the Fizz.bin file copied in there?

There is a fizz.bin file in each of the three folders that have current games.

I suggest you create a bat file to start JVC.

My bat file looks like this

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java" -Xms256m -Xmx256m -jar jvc.jar
You will have to adjust the path to where your Java install is located if it is different.

Also, if it does not want to start initially, try running it from the command prompt / power shell. It will give you error messages you will otherwise miss.

When you start the app, does the JVC slash screen come up?

OK - I can open JVC, and it's looking at the three games I set up, but when I try to open a game, nothing happens. It just sits at the white JVC splash screen.

Is there a registry file I need to put into my windows folder?

I don't think so, however it's been several years since I last ran JVC. You might try shooting Lar's an email.

If this winplan for 64 bit Win 7 thing works out, I won't have to worry about it!

Perhaps it's time to start a JVC guide. Here is some initial pieces of the guide to get you started.

I is a work in progress, but the initial setup is there.
Hope it helps.

Bitmask - the images zip is giving me some grief. When I try to open it I get a message saying it's not a valid archive.

What are you using as a zip client?
Try www.7zip.org
It's the greatest one and it's free and it does 7zip :)
If you still have an issue let me know.

Edit: I downloaded the zip and extracted it without any issue.

JVC itself won't run, Java gives me an error message. Something like

Code: Select all

javax.swing.border.AbstractBorder;local class incompatible; stream classdesc serialVersion UID =..., local class serialVersionUID= ....
I'm no techie, but it looks like some versions don't match or something. I've downloaded the latest version from sourceforge. Running 64-bit java in win7 64-bit.

And the images download give me trouble too. Winrar sees it as a file without an extension, not as a folder.
