Not been a problem so far
YET
IMO they can be devasting and have the potential to unbalance the game. I've seen it also a few times where it took out HWs pretty early. Rather increase the small meteor rating a bit and you're off just as well.

Asking a good question.

I don't know, but it wouldn't be hard to sim to get some data.

I do know that in my current game Forbidden Depths, I had a bovie
crushed by big meteor, IIRC, twice... just mangled the pop.

The Amorph that I have that got hit, annihilated the colonists but did
no damage to the Amorphs.

I wish I had my entire game library, I could review a bunch.

Maybe I'll setup a game with a bunch of meteor hits to see.

Ask Cherek,
when Big Meteors aren't SMASHING his HW, they do like to hit is Money Planets. :pointlaugh:
Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference.
The US Marines don't have that problem.

so far, i would rate the possible outcome of a large meteor hit as very random. i had 10mio avians nearly wiped out. and i had some avians taking nearly no damage at all. same with factories, supplies... the lot. very random effects. i doid never see any relations between mineral-amount and damage, or any other relation, like a total kill-count of ppl. nothing like that.
have fun!

The happinness rate getting hammered is fairly standard, I think

nope... that is random as the casualties
I had hits with -15 hp and I had meteor hits with -80

A friend of mine had a meteor hit on a planet that was pillaged, then took over by another race, taxed to 100% and a glory device exploded too. A few natives survived that total desaster and the happiness was somewhere below -50

What a cool setting in Phost4!
from pconfig.src

MaximumMinefieldsPerPlayer = 40,40,40,40,40,40,100,40,40,40,40

I might want to adjust it a little bit.
40,40,40,40,40,30,100,30,60,40,40

That way the two minefield races have a numerical field advantage
and the two strongest (fleet wise) races are a bit weaker.

But putting a quota on minefields ensures that there's little ability
to put a crystal over a barrel by spamming mines.

Less need for super minefield numbers as well.

By spamming mines you mean a player laying a bunch of really small mines in an enemy ID?

"spamming minefields", laying a whole bunch of little fields to force
the 500 minefield limit.

A guaranteed castration of a crystal.
Take away the webs, take away the ability to steal ships.
