I just downloaded the AutoTroll (HTML-DOCS) from Red Troll's site, and found them under the Chapter 'Web Forms and Email Commands', Subchapter 'Forwarding Messages'.

I sent an e-mail out to all the players in the Lurkers2 game except the Birdmen and the Crystals, just to see if it could be done that way.

Can't seem to make it work.

I sent it like this:

$MailRace: 1 2 4 5 6 8 9 A B

and I also tried:

$MailRace: 1
$MailRace: 2
$MailRace: 4
.
.
.
$MailRace: B

You will be assimilated by the Borg
$End:

I'm thinking you can either send a message to a single race, or to all the races. If you want to send them like I tried above, that will require 9 separate messages.

I've seen 2 messages go through, but only because I'm copied on them. It seems to be working so far. The other player's will receive them as emails from the host account. You'll just have to wait for a reply.

I have a couple of questions. I'm asking because I'm working on a theory.

1. Do any of the players have an email address listed as <PRIVATE>?
2. Did they also get the message?
The line below is true.
The line above is false.

Are you thinking that the messages I sent to multiple players went through..?? I kept getting error messages like:

Errors Found in Message!
Race 0 is not a valid race number.

I sent a message to myself, and shortly after I sent it, here's what showed up:

<<<Processed>>>

FROM: Cyborg in Lurkers 2

<<<private>>>
$MailRace: 6
----------------------------------------------------------------

You Will Be Assimilated By The Mighty Borg!
Yours Will Be A Slow And Painful Death!

----------------------------------------------------------------
$End

********** How To Reply ***********
1. Specify the race you want to send the message to. To send
it to everyone, change the 6 above to 0.
2. Put your text between the -------- lines above. Leave the
rest of the message in your reply (ie, don't delete part
of the original message when you reply).

I haven't seen anything come back from the messages I sent with multiple races listed in $MailRace. I included myself in those messages as well, just to see if it was going to work. All I got back were error messages.

The one I sent with $MailRace: 6 went through immediately.

Cherek -

AutoTroll doesn't care if a player's e-mail address is 'private' or not. Those players with private e-mail addresses will get the message through AutoTroll, just like they get their .RST files. It just means I can't send a player an e-mail message directly to them. I have to either use AutoTroll, or I have to send them a message through WinPlan or EchoView.

So, the answers to your questions:

1. YES
2. YES

Nice! :D I didn't think the

$MailRace: 2
$MailRace: 4
.
.
.
$MailRace: B

thingy worked. Thanks for the feedback!

So far, I've only gotten one response from AutoTroll. I guess I've still got another one coming...presumably the single message I sent to
$MailRace: 6

If I had been thinking, I would have sent two different messages so I could see which one(s) worked and which ones didn't. :( Duh!

Cherek -

There's your proof that e-mail addresses that are 'private' will still get the message.
The below is a special tag AutoTroll uses to identify
you, MajorM as a player.
######### Do not modify below this line!
$Player: 382
$PlayerID: xxxxx
$Game: 101
MajorM has a private e-mail address, but AutoTroll sent him the message.

Okay, I was just wondering. I just trying to figure why some players receive broadcast messages and others don't. Two players that I know who don't receive the broadcast messages, have their "Receive Broadcast Messages" set to YES and they have <PRIVATE> listed as their email address.

I just read through the entire AutoTroll docs, and I cannot find anywhere that suggests $PrivateEMail and $BroadCastMsgs have anything to do with each other.

$PrivateEMail only sets the "Hide EMail" flag.

It would be interesting to have one or both players query AutoTroll to confirm $BroadCastMsgs is set to YES. Then fire off a Broadcast Message and see if they get it.

If not, have them temporarily change $PrivateEMail to NO, and fire off another one.

See what happens...??

I dunno. That's a confusing one. According to the docs, what you describe shouldn't be possible...:-)

You *are* talking about these two players not being able to receive Broadcast Messages delivered to their e-mail address(es) from AutoTroll, correct?

Two players have said they are not getting the message when a new player joins a one of their games. I get the messages whenever a new player take over a in one of my games.

I'm thinking that the problem may lay in the template for the message generated when a new player has joined a game that is already running. I can't download AT here and it isn't on my Jump Drive, so I'll look at it some more when I get home.

Havok has already confirmed that AT has their $BroadcastMsgs is set to YES.

I agree with you, it shouldn't. That is why it is so hard to figure out.

Correct, I believe a player was attacking the CP. Then he read a message in the forum from the player he had been attack for several turns. That was because he didn't recieve an email that a race was taken over by someone else.

Would either of those two players be willing to temporarily allow their EMail address visible to see if they receive Broadcast Messages?

Methinks your suspicions are correct. For sure, whatever is happening is happening because AutoTroll has been told to do exactly what it's doing. Finding out exactly where that is occurring is most likely in a template somewhere.
