non-Crystal Webmines

Post by Akalabeth » Sat Oct 24, 2009 9:35 pm

So if a Crystal player lays webmines in another race's identity, I take it they don't show up as web mines in Winplan?

IIRC, they show up as normals and the only ways an enemy
can find out are:

#1: Running into them.

#2: Closely monitoring mine sweep messages.
Normal mines are 5 LY sweep range.
Web mines are 0 LY sweep range.

I thought any mines laid for anyone else were dropped as normal mines. Just as the Bots cannot get 4x minefields when dropping in another race's identity...

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I'm pretty sure the xtals can lay a minefield in the identity of another race - the only difference is that they dont drain fuel from enemy ships in the web, unless a minehit ocurs.

Web mines can be laid as anyone. It's just that Winplan cannot display them as such, and shows them as normal mines. Web mines laid as non-Crystals are not "full-featured", compare http://www.donovansvgap.com/help/webmines.htm for THost. In PHost, non-Tholian web mines do not drain fuel as well, but Tholians are not immune.

Stefan has now explained why as a crystal, in Tim's Host, I am
more than willing to sell web mines to customers that are willing
to pay me. (re: NF59)

Non-Crystal Webs are no threat to a crystal.

I sell a high value, highly effective race-id web and acquire
something I want/need and there is NO potential risk of having
those race-id webs bite me back.

ie: NF59, Rebel webs for falcons.
