Hi,

does anybody use this magnificent tool by Peter Ratschitzky?

Although it might be outdated from 2011, and does officially support VPA up to V3.51e it works fine with all actual VPA releases.

At least some minor changes should be done. Please contact me for actual release V2.23b.

Steffen

In case you didn't know his site is still up. I don't know if he answers email or not but you may be able to get him to provide the source code if he still has it.

Yes, I know. But he is out of buisiness for the last two years.

I have the sources and ported them so that they work with the latest VPA.

What would be the reason to use it?
If you have a DOS registration instead of a winplan one, just use a script.

Install PCC2 and then make a .bat file with something like this: (remove the pause if you do not want the feedback)

C:
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox.exe" -conf "C:\games\VGAPlan\Planets\FedWar2\dosbox-FedWar2.conf"
pause
C:
cd C:\games\VGAPlan\Planets
..\PCC2\c2mkturn FedWar2
pause

By running c2mkturn, your turn will be made requesting VGAP 3.5 data instead of just VGAP 3.0 data.
(assuming you have PCC2 in C:\games\VGAPlan\PCC2 )

If UFO4VPA does anything in addition, I'd like to know!

Well, please read the docs of Ufo4VPA at http://www.chiasma.de/vgap/ufo4vpa/.

It does nothing of the above, but much much more that VPA and even PCC or Winplan does not do. (Very handy for minefields)

I have been using Ufo4VPa for the last 10 years or so.

But with the release of VPA 3.58 (beginning of VPA-Team) Ufo had some miscalculations with the mines - nothing severe but sometimes nasty. (To be exact: VPA fixed the long awaited decay).

Now I fixed Ufo4VPA again not to calculate decay, because VPA calculates it correctly. Because Ufo4VPA patches the VPAx.DB directly ( [-X ) more bugs can be possible.

He did respond to a planets related question not that long ago. Havoc's power games shiplist came from him, from some backup of games he played at Spaceport Hamburg.

Yes, he still responds - but has quit playing AND developing anything for Planets. Too sad, since Ufo4VPA is really worth to be used and improved!

You are right, I am not paying attention. Will read up! Thanks.
