Case I truly wish I could, I think it would be a great learning experience. Unfortunately I'm in 2 games right now and I'm going to have to drop one of those as it is.......
When Alpha Quadrant finishes I will probably be looking to join something else to fill my one game slot, but I figure you would be up and running by then. If not then I'll shout out to you. It's definately something I'd like to be a part of if I had more time.

What did you think of my name suggestions? stunned silence from all so far, not even any critical banter

Burner Boy, Milka, Samuelt86, Casebolt, that it? we need one more!!! Hennef you in?

Everyone good with a regular game ? seems it will go over better. Pirates, are out!! 5 vs 5, config should be a common,

Need Team name, ideas > Star Stormers <?

Ideas comments?

Casebolt...
Not much to add... besides the fact that "Milka" is a chocolate manufacturer (not sure if they sell their "drugs" outside of europe too but I guess they do).

But yep, I'm in and I also agree on the regular setup. What I haven't noticed yet... are we challenging CM players or players from another hosting site? Doesn't matter for me anyway... just courious.

Privs out is also the best... the next important question would be the team setup itself.

My proposal would be

Team 1:
Birds, Lizards, Borg, Empire, Colonies
(claokers, economy boost thorough lizards, cubes/fireclouds, dark sense and cheap fighters)

Team 2:
Feds, Fascists, Crystals, Robots, Rebels
(super refit and some money and anti cloak, small cloakers combined with webs, cheap fighters and big carriers for feds along with nasty RGA and masses of mines)

I think both sides have some really good ways to cause trouble
a Borg Cube along with some super deeps filled with lizards might be the one thing... transport and fuel is also no problem and a team with Empire/Birds should know everything. They should have enough money too when they have enough hissers.

The other side has money for torps/webs, can refit the ships and I think some Golems and Rushes in Fed hands can cause trouble too. Some ground attack is possible too and the Fascists also give a nice defence vs cloakers.

And of course it would be fun to see many Lizard Biocides fighting a bunch of Fed Rushes.

Any comments on that team setup?

Recommended changes:

#1: Chunnel OFF.
There is no way to balance this advantage of the borg team.

#2: Instead of preset teams, go with a 1/2/2/2/2/1 picking process.
Team A chooses first one race.
Team B chooses two races,
Team A chooses two races and repeat till Team B gets remaining race.

This adds variety and risk to the game race selection process.
If you play enough as a team, you'll learn certain combos to avoid.

Also, in this setup, Team B chooses mapside.

#3: Consider All players get a compatible Instant Messenger.
It can make a huge difference in speeding things up between players
when you have to discuss something.
Understanding is a three-edged sword.

their side,
and the truth.

Useally the Robot and Crystals offset eachother, I would not like to fight both. I would not accept a teamgame against them, that is a team decisson.

For instance If the first team picked Bots, Now we get two pick 2 times but he had allready picked your first one by picking Bots " Crystals" offsets . Now its Our turn to force THEM> Feds<the> Lizards<. If we miss the Bots we just screwed ourselfs.

If they started with Crystals then our first pick would be Bots then Feds or Lizards.

As SWATT Feds were our primary race, 1 st choice for so many reasons standing alone or in a team level game. Money, terformers, refitts, Loki ,
many more..

Guys just keep talking, planning, strategising, bragging, hell talk about whatever you like, just keep doing it for as long as you can 'cause if you aint up and running by the time Alpha Quadrant finishes then I'm your guy.

That is a must... yes
for 5 races per team it will be necessary to discuss the turns with your two neighbours. The rest is important when you plan your things as long term tactics.

But at least for me ICQ would be the most suitable thing. I tried to run another programm (can't remember) but that caused some problems. I just hope that ICQ is the most common instant messenger.

My own view is that I'd leave the pirates in along with chunnel. That way nobody is stuck with their worst race. They add flavor to the game. Then again, I don't think it will really matter. I have a funny feeling we are bringing in a lot of experience.

As far as messenger goes, I use yahoo. I have used ICQ in the past. I just got tired of the annoying porn ads and other come-ons. I can always re-install it.

I'm ready :bruce: It should be fun

there are some ways to get rid of those ads and all that stuff. I don't know how (but must be easy to google) but there are versions of ICQ and then there are some... let's call them "little programms" that remove the ad-bar... and some adjustments make it impossible to send you links to things like "see me real hot......" or whatever. I only get messages from ppl I know (everyone else must be authorized first) and I haven't got any ads since I installed that "patch".

But I'm using an older version I think... may be 4.1 or something. The "patches" should be available for almost every version. Just search for such a patch first and then find the icq version that fits.

Howdy,
The alternate picks is definately the most fair, usually done by the "Captain" of the team. Pirates in or out, probably out. I can tell you from experience that playing Borg without Chunnel is difficult at best, and not much fun.

The reason Chunnel needs to be off in team games is balancing.

The team with Chunnel sets up the chunnel net and the team without
cannot without having extreme numerical and quality advantages stop
the borg's team from employing maximum firepower anywhere.

Borg team moves chunnel fleet to point A.
Nonborg moves defensive fleet to point A.
Borg team moves chunnel fleet to point B 1000 LY away.
Nonborg team takes 12 turns to get equivalent distance.

The alternative is to give the other team a firecloud of their design
choice so that both teams have chunnel.

Else:
IF Chunnel is left on, then Pirates must be left in game.
This will guarantee the race pick procedure to this:

Team A: picks Borg or Pirate (absolute must)
Team B: picks Borg or Pirate + ???
etc.

Team A cannot afford to allow Team B to have both Borg & Pirate.
