But a completely standardized grudge map would have the same two
homeworlds. IMO, that would be unwanted.

But, if #2 is done, then #1 is easily solved thru master.exe.

Cool.
Well, sounds like I've got my next addon "assignment" then... I'll get it whipped up soon. As for the map, what I meant was to have a standardized xyplan.dat created, where the appropriate # of planets were way off the side (ie, unusable), and then use said map in master.exe. In other words, standardize the planet layout, but master is where actual homeworld selection takes place...

Yep, with Ashes of the Empire populating the planets for the 3rd race
and your addon populating ~300 ship slots for the 3rd race, a standard
map could be used and a Thost Grudge Match could be setup in about
five minutes.

Cool

And with Phost, like BANE said, it would be lightning fast for the host to setup a new game.
I think I may have been unclear.
The actual game setup in PHost is more time consuming,
but the actual host runs are lightning fast.

Harry Bur has a project like that going on a sub-page of rcworld.

http://www.rebels-hq.de/special/

The 1vs1 games there are in a rather small universe, with phost, both players are fed, with a special shiplist (darkwing, gorbie, firecloud, mbr, poppers, cobols, ect.). Played one of these so far. It took about a week and a half (host runs if both turns are in) and my opponent folded in turn 29.

I wish ZP had written that page in English too.

Me too. The Race Builder scenario looks interesting too.

yup, the project seems to be a bit stalled. Harry (ZP) asked me to translate some sections, which I did. But signing up and joining one of the duel games is really easy.

Edit: And trust me - you do not want to read Harry's Denglisch.

Now those are much more interesting to me.
Small map, small ship count, slugfest.

I could see smashing thru a game like that in very short order.

Things sometimes, things can become stalled when they are located at one site and kind of hide away.

I'll try and remember about those scenarios with I have an opening.

BTW, It's good to see that you are still breathing. :P

I wonder what E1 thinks of the setup ZP has put together.

I see that there are more than just same race combat.
There's:
THost with different races,
Phost with different races,
Same races Phost,
Mod fed versus mod fed,
And
The racebuilder.

Wow, looks like ZP's pretty much got the thing covered.

From my (limited) experience, I would say that those 1 vs 1 games are decided fairly easily. In my game I had the luck (or was it skill? ;)) to run into a newly built base of my opponent quite early on, killing it and taking posession of an instru, plus towing and killing a mark8 Darkwing with over 100 torps. That got me ahead in the pbp queue and in the shipcount and he never recovered.

If you people are interested, I could start digging for the universe settings and a rst from that game....

If you mean the 1on1 duel arena from rebels-hq, here is a rough translation:

1 vs 1 - same race - same shiplist - Duel Tournament

Starmap: 650 X 650 LY with 90-100 Planets; Shiplimit: 100 Ships

New players start with 1500 points, for evey duel won the player gains 50 points and the loser loses 50 points. Exception: Losers from level 1 duels don't lose points.

If a player does not participate in any dual for more than a year, she/he will also lose 50 points.

It is possible to play many duals of the same level at the same time. To play a higher level dual, every old-level games must have finished.

Example:
Assuming a new player with 1500 points starts with three duels:

- He wins the first one, skill points raise to 1550 points (but he cannot join any level 2 duel since there are still two level 1 duels underway)

- He also wins the second duel, however the skill point level remains at 1550, but a (hidden?) markervariable will be raised by one.

- He loses the third game. Since the marker variable is > 0 he simply loses this point, otherwise his skill points are reduced to 1500 (or reduced by 50 on higher levels)

Tournament:
A number of different games will be offered for different tournament levels. They will feature different settings, ship lists as well as add-ons.

-----------------------

Well that's all to find on http://www.rebels-hq.de/special/duell_arena.html

If you need another quick translation fomr German to English, please let me know :)

A ladder is a pretty kewl idea. Not what I was aiming at when I created this thread, but indeed a kewl idea. Question is whether that is where to go first with this or just create the template for one on one 'vengenance' games. Perhaps however, there would be more interest in the idea posted above. Why are ppl thinking?

Ladder sounds cool, but we have to make certain, that games are running fast and do not take ages.

P/THost: Since I've played many games on both, I can assure you that the differences are mostly subtle and only experienced players will notice the big difference - and thise should be capable enough to adjust themselves :)
