Any interest in an "Old School" type game?

Been searching a few host, & have not been able to find one.

Standard square map
No addons
Everything default with high pop rich universe

End game defined by vote of players

3x trns per week till turn ~20
then 2x

Would like some sort of commitment from the players to not quit once they can no longer win.

Yha know, the game you used to play with your buddies when you started playing some 20 or more years ago.

Pretty much sounds like a No Frills game with the exception of people dropping out.

There are very very very very few people that will play a game until their last player is done. Off the top of my head, the only one I can think of recently is a player using the handle Wasp here. The guy is a trooper!

I guess the only difference is the standard map. Although the last round of no-frills aren't entirely "no-frills" (if you consider disunited kingoms a "frill"). No complaints from me though.

I do see your point, however I don't consider anything that Tim has built into the game to affect the so called "standard format" of the game.

However, on the flip side of the coin, you could say there's a "standard" game and there's a "slightly modified standard" game choice available when setting one up with just Tim's settings.

Yeah it was a pretty insignificant point and in no way a complaint or a "neener" on you.

I didn't take it as one, and hope I didn't come across that way :).

There's just Tim stuff, and then everything else :)

I do like the NF setup, very much my favorite on this site

Not a big fan of most planets or HW scenario or Flagship.

My prefered scenario end is players voting to continue or end at specific points in the game, say turn 100, 150, 200....
Voting occurs in the forum which also incourages forum participation by players

As for the commitment from players not to quit, wishful thinking

I usually play one game from the start and one game as fill in
100% of my effort goes into the game from the start
while the fill in game I experiment.

Sooo, I'm looking for a game where a long term strategy can be applied

I understand the wishful thinking...

For me, all current games are experiments of one type or another.
Maelstrom: Phost4, Plist, experience etc...
BlackLodge: JG Aliens, Lurkers and Crystalline entity...
Tactical Nightmare: Orbitor
Trainer (@TSB.N) where I'm playing as a teacher.

I'm trying nonstandard things out in my games because I did
vanilla almost exclusively for 10 years. In some cases, I have
found some of my long held preconceptions proving valid...

Maybe in 2008, I'll pickup a hardball game.
Understanding is a three-edged sword.
Your side,
their side,
and the truth.

How about this.

Tim Standard -

Low mineral universe (will comp with small and large meteor hits, say 12% small per turn, and 1 large every other turn)

Map - Echo Cluster

Shiplist - Tim's

Random HW locations.

Rich HW.

1 Million Clans and 5k money.

No Starbase

2 Free ships.

No addons.

I read this & thought about it for a while.
I think the no SB is a bit much

I would try a SB with tech 7 engines with all the other setting you listed
The Klingon & EE will probably not be the last races selected in this game

Oh, I'm sorry. I can't come to the door right now. I'm afraid that in my weakened condition, I could take a nasty spill down the stairs and subject myself to further school absences. You can reach my parents at their places of business. Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your concern for my well-being. Have a nice day!

yes..it would be nice...
i have yet to miss a trn in a game...and was on the bottom of nf91 for bout 50 trns and didnt quit...but thats mostly because i dont have much of a life  ...not everyone can say that though..

...and when real life butts its ugly head into your gaming or hobby time there isnt much u can do bout it..so it would be asking alot for everyone that starts a game to finish it (unless u hold the game each time something comes up)

but i know what u mean..ive had allies quit right in the middle of a big fight..or neighbor border deals go bad when the Q takes over the race and sends its fleets at u while yours are on the other side of the map...etc...

and as for nf games go i do perfer them to some of the other types...so far i only try to play one "other" game at a time and all other games are basic ones...id try out more addon games but im afraid id get them mixed up if i did more then one at a time..
yuck!...Who's got the cat breath?
