UnNatural Selection (Race Builder Game)

UnNatural Selection is a custom Race builder game [PHost4.1] using the TList1.1 shiplist. Each player creates his own race from selected predefined choices and you only find out what the other players selected in battle.

Setup:
Normal PHost setup (imitating TimHost as far as possible) with PWrap wrap around random Starmap. NO Allies, No Experience, No Wormholes, Host will run 3x / week till turn 25, then 2x / week until turn 100 or if players decide otherwise. Game starting after end Aug/early Sep.

Winning condition
Most TONS sunk at turn 100

Starting Ships is a Transwarp LDSF & Transwarp Nebula (XRays & Mark4 s) at Homeworld.

Each Player starts with Homeworld + 2 extra planets (All 3 planets are equal for all players, One Homeworld, One planet with 60 000 clans Representative Avians, One with 15 000 Pre-Tribal Bovs )

HW setup: 30 000 clans, 10 000MC starting money, normal minerals & densities. Tech 10 engines

Game is mastered with AMaster.

Race features
  • Fed : Scotty Bonus (+50kt bonus mass, +25% shield to all ships in a fight)
    Lizard : 150% Damage, clans immune to glory device
    Romulan : Immune to NUK/ATT, Reduced cloak fuel usage (3Kt), Reduced cloak fail rate (0%)
    Klingon : Immune to NUK/ATT, max 60 clans at desert worlds, immune to glory device(partial minehit damange only. 10%or20%)
    Privateer : 3x kill factor, all crew gets traitors if a ship gets captured, All Ships are UnClonable (If captured, they cannot be cloned)
    Borg : Assimilate natives, scoop minerals after fighting
    Crystal : Clans are immune to glory device, Crystals like it hot (1000 clans/deg), Bohemian will heat to 100deg. 0-50Deg. at twice the rate, 50 - 100 at normal rate
    Empire : 40% traitors if a ship gets captured, immune to bio-scan, Increased sensor range (300LY), IonShield (Ships are not dragged along, damaged or crew killed)
    Robots : Up to 60 clans at desert worlds, Reduced mine decay (3), Max minefield size +50LY (200LY)
    Rebels : ATT/NUK immune, 90000 clans at ice planets, 60 clans at desert planets, finds empire planets with bio-scan, dark-sense immune
    Colonies : 60 clans at desert worlds, can sweep mines with fighters

    Ore Condenser - Quietus Class Cruiser (Will increase the ore densities on the planet until they reach 50%. All ore densities will be increased simultaneously)
    Heats to 50 - Bohemian Class Survey Ship*
    Cools to 50 - Eros Class Research Vessel*
    AntiCloak - Loki Class Destroyer(Decloak ships in 10LY radius.Some races are immune to Anti Cloak ships, if selected in the Exploits section)
    Hyperdrive - Falcon Class Escort
    Repairs - Skyfire Class Cruiser*(If the ship doing the repair mission is undamaged, it will repair all damage on the target ship without using supplies. If the repairing ship is damaged, it will not be able to fully repair the target ship: if the repair ship has 10% damage, the target ship will only be repaired up to a damage level of 10%)
    Imperial Assault, Planet Immunity - Super Star Destroyer
    Glory Device High Damage - D19b Nefarious Class Destroyer* (When used in "Trigger" mode (trg), this device will not find ships that have Anti Cloak Immunity)

    Glory Device Low Damage - Saber Class Frigate(When used in "Trigger" mode (trg), this device will find all cloaked ships)
    Advance Cloak - Resolute Class BattleCruiser (it doesn't burn fuel to cloak)
    Ramscoop, Bioscan - Cobol Class Research Cruiser
    Gambling ship - Lady Royale Class Cruiser
    Cloak, Anti Cloak Immunity - Deth Specula Class Frigate*(Are immune to Anti Cloak ships, but not the Saber or Iron Lady)
    Cloak, Hardened Cloak - Lizard Class Cruiser(cloak still works if the ship is damaged)
    Advanced Anti Cloak - Iron Lady Class Frigate* also de-cloak ships which are Anti Cloak Immune, like the Deth Specula or from selection in the Exploits section
Dark Wing or Virgo
  • Advanced Cloak & Hardened Cloak - Dark Wing* (cloak still works if the ship is damaged and burns no fuel to cloak)
    Full Weaponry - Virgo* (can use their full arms even when damaged - like Fed Bonus)
Gorbie or Firecloud
  • Hardened Engines - Gorbie (The ship is not slowed down by damage)
    Warp Chunnel - Firecloud*
    (ChunnelSelf, ChunnelOthers, ChunnelTarget)

This might be an interesting combo... unless you can sweep webmines using fighters from 100lys away.

Same goes for the ROB mission with the DETH SPECULA CLASS FRIGATE -> Cloak- Anti Cloak immunity.

The setup should be so that you don't get too much Pirates/Crystals in the game, else who will they steal from :roll: :?:

and I will play the Sheepdons! Our racial ability is to create a 'white out' effect where you can't see where you are going, not being able to tell the difference between the sheep and goats. In no time you will be confused and attacking your allies....

Now that I read the rules a bit more closely, I don't think this will be a problem. Pirate/Crystal races can't win any game in 80 turns if it is based on sunken tonnage. The heavy carrier races are once again favoured. So any combo that can just crank out Gorbies or Biocides every turn should come out on top.

Maybe that's the way to limit the Pirate/Webs option the players will take. I have not really thought of it that way. 8)

There might be a better scoring system, but the idea is to get these nice tactics and options the players cooked up into battle as soon as possible without letting the game get blogged down.

There will be limits. A player cannot take everything he wants from the list. The idea here is that each player will have enough MC to buy the best of one category and the cheapist upgrade in another (i.e. Build Fighters + a bigger scanrange) or he might sacrifice and take a penalty in another category and can then buy the best in one category + Avg in another (i.e Low mining rate + Build fighters + Big Scan range):wink:

It's all about Sacrifice vs. Gains :roll:

Is this a derivative of what Harry Bur (ZeusPapa) was doing over
at the now defunct "Rebel-HQ" ?

I had hoped to be able to link you to his work, but I cannot easily
find it anymore. He had a duel setup that allowed players to work
thru the web their choices.

It might be worthwhile to contact Ricki Rohr at RCWorld.de to see
if he's got ZP's stuff backed up and available for your perusal.

I also have from mid 90's IIRC, some stuff saved that might help.

Yes, very much related. I played in that game that Harry setup. I also looked for his Website and found it no longer available, so I had to try and remember what all the options was we used back then. (And from the options I made)

This setup is very similar to what he had, but I excluded most of the things that made that setup hard to play/understand. I tried to make it a bit simpler here for the players. He had 1 ship (Ruby) which each player could assign a special function. I used different ships for each function [The section with the Cobol/Resolute/Saber/etc.].

Any stuff you might have that can help or suggestion will be good, yes.
