I am pretty certain I can put together a 4-5 man team.
Do you think you can?
If yes, are you interested in such a contest since you started this thread?

Work out all the details and then start the thing in September, maybe
earlier if all involved are good to go?

Borg/Firecloud/chunel question did come up, anyone want to tackle that one? I would asume chunel would be off? wish there was a config for chunel. Team game where the Borg quickly fan out like a web to set up chunel points GG.
The Firepower mobility of that teams potential is increased to unlimited with chunel on. This alone would parilize the entire other teams plans as they waste fuel trying to defend against the overwelming firepower and used in all facets of Economy,Clan movement,defense. Borg also gain advatage by the team set up and safely asiumlate 100 or more planets by turn 20, haveing one front. Total assiulation in 16 turns? and GG.

as I wrote before in this thread: I have faced a borg/robot pair once in a teamgame, with chunnel enabled, and basically kicked their arses. However, this was the Marbles setup, so we only needed to attack on two points.

Their mines were rendered useless by a dozen or so Darkwings with HD/HP, that alternated between sweeping/cloaking, always moving a ly or two, and somehow they had not expected several thousand mark7 of webmines delivered to their doorstep.

And as I also wrote before: Ideally (in my book), a 5on5 teamgame would have a set of winning conditions that allow for early victories, especially if any team or individual thinks it's OK to go 100% economy and win it in a dragged out battle at turn 100 by sheer numbers of carriers.

In 2v games, I don't see a big problem with chunnel, but in a 5v, I do.
That's 5 races that all access chunnel and there's no way the other team
can match that mobility.

Victory conditions? Do you have some suggestions?

When Casey & I used to play together on a 5man team, victory was
determined by capturing 3 enemy home worlds.

Here's something to consider...

Team Borg with chunnel + 4
Team Pirate + 4

That splits two very powerful assets and makes all races available.
I'd like to hear compelling arguments for and against.

compelling argument against priv: it adds about two layers of complexity for the other team, because you constantly have to swap the fuel on your lokis and keep them safe.

I generally dislike stargates, but in a 5 vs 5 with chunnel, i'd probably vote for them.

And another thing I'd like discussed: Super rare universe, which makes cheaper ships somewhat worthwhile, and we won't end up with 50 rushes on the one side versus 40 biocides or something similar.

I like rare universes...makes the economy much more important.

I've only used FHost's stargate and I don't want to use FHost so I
don't have experience regarding Jumpgate or other stargate addons.

Jumpgates are a Pirates, and other cloakers best friend. Unlike Stargates, any ship can move through any Jumpgate. You build a Jumpgate, set a few ships to JXX and when somebody builds or has a Jumpgate with that ID, your ship moves through it freely. See a enemies Jumpgate, bam invasion. Tholian will quadruple web in any of thier Jumpgates, and a Pirate will stay at any Jumpgate they can find and hover waiting to rob, anything that moves to the gate or comes out of the gate.

tholians is also not really an issue - I have yet to see a Tholian that does not crumble when faced by massive sweeping power. Talking 1 on 1 here, if the Tholian has been fed by other races, it's a totally different matter.

but I think there should be at least some Stargate/Jumpgate addon that only lets you and your allies pass.

Jumpgate allows friend and foe, only real issue with it. Maybe assigning one Race on each side to have a chunnel ship instead. Just a slight ship mode, nothing major.

Just scanned the doc for the stargate program here at CM's ftp site.
It operates like jumpgate...not real big on that implementation;
ie: "If you find the gate, you can use it."

I like the way FHost handles stargates with them in planetary orbit
and controlled by owner.

An option could be to run Fhost with everything but stargates off?

hiss needs to be tuned down somewhat, however, lizard was way dominating in the game I played with it.
