Just an idea for a new game: hosting every 30 minutes
this could be a weekend game, starting some saturday ending at sunday, depending on the world-time for the players.
30 minutes, no time for long emailing for partnerships, just fast decisions, no sleep, a box of beer and the feeling of playing "online".
24 hours means 48 turns, could be done, eh ?

What you're refering to is what we used to call a Blitz game.

I haven't run one that way since launching the site, but we used to do it all the time back when we ran games on a BBS.

Was fun (but difficult) in IRC (where VGAP RAW! was born.)

Ya'll have fun if you pull it off.

If I ever get a weekend w/o kids and wife, I would be up for a
blitz start to a game that after the weekend slowed down to a
2x/3x game.

Yeah you're referring to Kero's Blitz type game.

Not having played via his method I don't know if his way or doing what I know how to do would be simplest.

In my way, 1st we get the players, get the game setup, and then just set AutoTroll to run each time all turns are in for the duration of the afternoon. From that point I would put it on normal settings.

It would be great for a Saturday or Sunday game, and if the time can be devoted by everyone, we should be able to bang out 25 or 30 turns I would think.

How about a RAW game, I still have that.
Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference.

I am interested in a Blitz game as you call it i have not played in one before but i am willing to give it a shot. 8)

Enemy #1 mentioned a RAW game could you please explain RAW to a simple minded folk such as myself. :?

The next question what set up would it be.(a No frills,with or W/O addons)

What type of map would we be playing on.

Whichever the setup i'm keen and i reckin a few more would be to.

"Rapid Action Warfare (RAW!) is Dan and Dave's VGA Planets interlocking
game extension. RAW plugs into VGA Planets WINPLAN 3.52.003 or better
and host 3.22.006 or better. Raw provides a whole new way to play VGA
Planets. The economic system has been totally removed from the game and
replaced with a great easter egg hunt for very powerful super weapons
hidden on planets, like super bombs (HFTD) that can destroy all small
ships within 160LY to 320LY. There are missile systems that track
targets over 100's of light years and anti-missile systems. See Dan and
Daves pages for a complete list of items that can be found.

"Points are scored when you destroy enemy ships by any means possible.
When it is destroyed it comes back as long as the ship has lives left.

RAW was a mod put out by Dan & Dave that never caught on. It stands for Rapid Action Warfare. I've got a copy of it in the downloads area that you can grab if you like and take a look at the docs. Here's what the description says about it.

VGA Planets(VGAP) RAW! is a new way to play VGAP. A simpler, faster and deadlier way to play. In RAW!, you no long control planets or work to maintain an economic empire. Your goal is to move from planet to planet with your ships (using the RAW! client) and gather up objects from the planets that can improve the combat power of your fleet. Items range from more beam or torp weapons to new super weapons.

With this new system you can play games that go by quickly and never take too long to play. The RAW! game system makes turns short and no matter how many turns you play your turn should never get much longer than the first turn you played. Perfect for the person that loves VGAP but is short on time!

Requires WINPLAN 3.52.004 or later and HOST 3.22.006 or later

Hi all

Just reading the idea of the Blitz Game, Maybe instead of doing 30 min turns to start with then regular timings why not have a few days of 3-4 turns a nite Prior to weekend show down, at least that way you have a bit of a backing then hit the 30 min turn on a weekend.

If we do it starting turn 1 on the weekend it will take half the day to gather a fighting force,where as if we have a lead up time then the weekends get in and get killing or in my case probly being killed. :)

Actually, the way this works is we all site down, get the instant messengers going and make sure everyone has a few hours to spare.

I'll set the host to run "when all turns are in". The first turns don't take 5 minutes to play. You'll go through the first 25 in no time at all.

Once a few hours have gone by, we'll call it a day, and the remainder of the game will run just like any other VGAP game. 2 or 3 days a week, or whatever is voted on.

Yes Hennef i realize that combat is not consistantly predictable.

It was just a thought. :-k

If you have a semi close map such as the Flower map or even the Battlestar command Tounament map (slighty shrunk) i reckon it would work.
