More than just a Tournament

Post by Ex Con » Tue May 02, 2006 10:23 am

What about setting up tournament games, where it is not just this host involved but several (say 3 as an example) and each host will have their own tournaments which will end with that sites best 5 players. These 5 best players from these hosts now battle it out further, with the end result being top player (Title given to player and site with maybe a picture of the player).

Something like this would really pull people together and get the sites working with/against one another in fun? :)

A tourney could be possible in the future. I don't have the time for it right now. I noticed that Ed's old tourney went on for over a year. If one was to be run, I don't think it should go on that long, even if it has multiple stages.

Back at the Spaceport Hamburg the Andromeda Tourney went on for several years. And basically every year the same guy won. Sadly, the tourney ended after I had just made it to the last of the five levels.
In the lowest level there were like 20 games, second last level was only 3 and one alpha game, which Armin's Powershiplist, Jupiter, Abhost, Unity, Asteroids and some other addons.

Thanks for bring up Spaceport Hamburg tournies Rimstalker. Those tournies did seemed to go on and on and on..., which is why I stopped playing in tournies. Besides, what do they really prove? Who is the best? If you want to know who the best players are, look in the Hall of Fame.

Problem with tourneys is the amount of time they require to progress.

What about the old VGAP ladder that used to exist. Is that thing still around... If so, is it valid?

AFAIK, it is still around, but I haven't had contact with Neil or Stephen
since ~00/01.

IIRC, in its' past and I assume current iteration, the RCCL is labor
intensive for the hosts.

Accurate? Now that I couldn't answer as I was part of the discussion
*board* when setting it up but have not been involved after. It has
been so long since I've looked at the rules of RCCL that I remember
almost nil. :?

With all the addons and various flavors of mastering and toss in
the various shiplists and host/phost, I am not sure an accurate
ladder could be set up.

As Gilgamesh mentioned elsewhere, the RCCL does discourage the
experimental games.

I suspect reputation still is about as valid as the RCCL.

I seem to remember something about it being labor intensive now that you mention it. I haven't seen it in years. Don't even know who runs it.

If I'm looking at this correctly, it doesn't appear to have updated since Jan of 05.
