Rebel Giga Freighter

The Federation gets a free Rebel Giga Freighter hull built on its starting starbase. Since it is a Tech 10 hull, I have to raise my tech level to 10. Once I raised the tech to 10 I was able to place the order in the Starbase queue. I get a bad turn file for cheating if I don't raise the tech. I am assuming the Privateers will have the same issue.

After further investigation, as the name implies, only the Rebels should have this ship. The HULLSPEC.DAT that came with the RST indicates only the Privateers and Feds should be able to build.

Building a T10 ship with a low-tech starbase is not a problem. I just tried this. Made a new game, gave Feds a Merlin hull, and built the Merlin with an all-tech-1 starbase. I used Host 3.22.047.

Also, the HULLSPEC.DAT file does not contain the race assignments, TRUEHULL.DAT does. You cannot build a ship that is not allowed to your race in TRUEHULL.DAT. It's just not possible to express that in the data files.

So, your problem must be something else than what I read out of your description.

PCC2 allowed me to build the ships without raising the tech level of the Hull. That must be a limitation of WinPlan because everything remains grey until I raise the tech level. AutoTroll seems to be sleeping so I'm waiting to see if I can get another BAD TRN FILE. Here is the contents of that email from yesterday before I raised the tech to 10:

I assumed that HULLSPEC.DAT was responsible because it was the only thing with HULL in the title sent with the RST. I see now that HULLSPEC.DAT alters the hull ID# (#1 in this case). What used to be the Outrider Class Scout (usable by race 1 and 5) is now a Rebel Giga Freighter. I was also noticing that Hull ID# 40 is called AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA .... looks like that used to be called Little Pest Class Escort.

Maybe I was sent the wrong DAT file?

This seems to be output of Tim's chktrn.exe? I cannot find this message in host.exe. So maybe it's a problem with chktrn.exe being overly picky? It would be a problem to build a hull without having sufficient tech, but it shouldn't be a problem using it. It's what shareware players do all the time: sending NFCs with T10 engines from their Ghipsoldal bases, recycling them, and using the engines without having T10.

However, it accepted my build-a-Merlin-on-T1-base just fine.

If I were the host, I would send a TRUEHULL.DAT just for completeness, but if that file is unchanged from the default, your description sounds pretty plausible for a Shiplist That Works.

I couldn't get another "Bad TRN File" therefore I am fine with that explanation.

Since I am not suppose to be able to build a Rebel Giga Freighter (Rebel only ship) and TRUEHULL.DAT is responsible for ship race assignment. Sounds like that is what I need to correct that issue.

As for ship hull ID# 40, the most I could do was try to have my RST resent along with the DAT files. Since that didn't resolve it there must be something wrong with the HULLSPEC.DAT file.

Yep, I was missing the TRUEHULL.DAT ... it was attached to the initial e-mail. I had to scroll through the attachments to see it. Ooops.
