And making it a topic with a link to the site will gain them another, what, 20, 30 clicks and 1 or 2 subscribers? Thats why you find spam everywhere, even on desolate message boards like these. Spamming pays. And as long as someone gains something from it, we will only see more and more. Its a mistake to make it a topic. Not because of the content, but for the support of a more than annoying, privacy-invading policy. It doesn't matter, if its p0rn, drugs, interest rates, stocks or software, giving them an additional platform like this, actually some free extra promotion, after they're trying to invade anywhere anyway, is a mistake. Just my .02.

I get several of those a day. The last offical person to sign up for the forums was Catman. I just nuke them out as I catch them. This one was gone by the time I noticed your post. Unfortunately with PHPBB I can't turn off the new user signup.

Isn't there an option you can set so that you have to approve new members? It's not as much of a pain as you might think. That is what we always had our boards set to.

It's the same group that's doing it over and over. I can't shut off new user joining on the forums unfortunately, a failing of the software. I did find a option/mod that can be put in to record the IP address of people joining the forums though and I think that might do the trick.

It never ends. I knock out on average about 3-6 bogus accounts per day. Some sit there longer than others. It depends on when they arrive and when I see them.
