Tanascius

Hi Cherek,

Let's talk Tanascius!
Here's the link:
http://www.tanascius.com/

Is the tool "Manager"
http://www.tanascius.com/manager.phtml
built into the main program "Tanascius"?

to answer my first question, it appears that "manager" is not
integral to "Tanascius" but just from a cursory look, "manager"
seems like a similar (perhaps better) version of randmax/randgen.

I am thinking about employing "Manager" in one or more of my games
just to see how it behaves.

Upon reading the documentation, it is an interesting program.

I installed Manager, set up a shortcut. It kicks off a DOS program that flashes by, but otherwise doesn't seem to do much.

Maybe I already have it in my Tanascuis? I have the auto build functions, use waypoints, taxation, etc. I don't see a place to exclude planets based on a particular FC. Am I missing something?

This could save me a lot of time.

Hmmm, Manager. I think I'll download it and check it out also.

Thanks for the info BANE.

According to the docs, Manager isn't 100% compatible with PHost.

"So as soon as Phost also uses those exact formulas, Manager is 100% Phost compatible."

Exactly what fomulas he is talking about I don't know.

AFAIK, Phost approximates host in the various calculations but
does not exactly replicate them. IIRC, Phost thru the dev process
hasn't had access to host.exe source code.

Thus, there are minor calculation differences between the two.

I've been reading the Manager docs. For the most part, it sounds like it does the samething as Tanascuis and a little bit more. I guess I'll take in for a spin.

But for my PHost games, I might create another game directory just for PHost games and continue to use Tanascuis for them while I test Manager on my HOST games.

Question:
Are we doing a critique of Manager or Manager vs Tanascuis?

I opened the thread to talk about Tanascius.
After browsing at the Tanascius site, I also noted Manager.

So, I think both are valid topics.

I would like opinions/experience reports from folks that regularly
use Tanascius for econ control.

Anyone that uses Manager? Same thing.

I am looking at making my VGAP a lot less tedious and I suspect
I am going to have a hard time letting go of the econ control, but
that is the primary tedium in the game.

(unless you want to ask Shardin about me and web deployment!)

Ok, I'll start on it now (Don't no one call my work and tell them I'm not actually working on fixing a glitch on a laptop).

Sooooo... would mention of Randmax/Randgen be out of place, if we're talking econ managers? Oh well, never said I was good at staying on topic. I'll give Tanascius a go sometime soon, but FWIW I've been use max/gen for a while now, and have been generally happy with it. It does a good job w/ certain race abilities too, like factoring in the Lizard HISS mission when figuring tax rates, etc. I'd be (will be?) interested to know how it compares to Tanascius/Manager...

I think Randmax/RandGen are appropriate here esp. for comparing.

I used max/gen prior to my previous retirement but haven't started
using them again.

I will probably employ one or the other soon.

Has anyone gotten Manager to run?

WB, Tanascuis take in account HISSing when calculating colonies rate.
