Mine Sweeping

Post by Andor » Fri Nov 01, 2013 6:48 pm

Somehow I was able to detect a web minefield outside the 200ly range. Here's most of the message I received:

(-m0011)<<< Sub Space Message >>>

From: <All Ships>
We are scanning for mines
Enemy Mine field detected!
AT ( xxxx , yyyy )
They are Crystalline style web mines.
We are 999 light years
from the outside edge of the field.
There are 307 mine units.
Mine field ID Number : ##
The field is 34 light years across.
We must be 999LY closer to
target mines with beam weapons.
307 mines remain.

From <All Ships> is not a modification and the distance from the outside edge is not accurate. AT ( xxxx , yyyy ) and Mine field ID Number : ## have been modified. If this is a joke, Echoview is falling for it too. Anyone else experiencing similar sensor issues?

Could this have been from your ally?

This game is using PWrap. You might be close to the wrap border.

In PHost the sensor sweep mission also does mine sweep, so all ships doing those 2 missions will detect mines. The wrap will also be used to detect minefields meaning a ship will detect any mine over the wrap border within scan range.

PHost only give you 1 message per mine, where TimHost will give you a message for each ship scanning the mine (i.e. TimHost will give you the same mine 2 times if 2 ships detect it). For this reason PHost does not tell you the ship and distance from the ship that detected the mine.

The message you received is legit.

Dang, I remember reading that about Sensor Sweep now. Its the generic way in which phost reports mines that really threw me off. I'm glad I at least left the x,y coordinates and minefield ID blank, but the Crystals know I'm close to them now #-o

Thanks
