Dismiss
Version: v1.0
Type: Freeware
Author: Rob Smith
Homepage: Rob's Planets Page
Publisher Description
Dismiss will remove a specified mission from any ship that you own. It's primary use is to avoid mishaps. As the Rebels I have Ground Attacked several planets that I hadn't planned to by forgetting to reset a ship mission. One of them was a base! That's when I decided to write this utility. If your race has a dangerous mission such as Ground Attack or Pillage, you may find it useful.

Dismiss is designed to work in a batch file. By default, it will only run once a turn. You should use it after UNPACK and before your client software (i.e. Planets or VPA). Do not use it after you have done your turn or you will erase some of your carefully planned work.

Engine Spec Calculator

Type: Freeware

Publisher Description
This spreadsheet can be used to calculate the engine size of a ship you have fought. This is useful when simming battles.

Enter the E-S bonus in the game, along with the ship type and shield strength witnessed (during a battle). It will do the rest for you. :)

Hyper
Version: v1.02

Publisher Description
This utility is designed to calculate single and double jumps for Hyperspace Ships. It is most useful for Falcon and PL21 probe type ships. The Borg B200 hasn't enough of a fuel tank to make multiple jumps. It works by reading the game's data files, checking the Friendly Code of ships.

If a hyperjump calculation is requested by a ship, Hyper then changes the FCode to HYP, calculates a single or double jump and changes the waypoint of the ship.

Minecode
Version: v1.05
Type: Freeware
Author: Rob Smith

Publisher Description
Minecode is a player utility for VGA Planets, Host 3.22. It allows you to look for inconsistencies in the minesweep information you (and your allies) receive. These inconsistencies may allow the program to guess the Friendly Code to enemy minefields! So, in short, it is a utility for trying to discover enemy minefield codes. Unfortunately, this program will not work with PHost. PHost does not identify the ship that is doing minesweeping, it simply reports <All Ships>. This stops Minecode from establishing the ship location.

Research

Research is a host side add-on for Host 3.22. It will work fine with PHost 3. It has not been tested with PHost 2 but I suspect it will work ok - it is a very basic concept. It resulted from a discussion on the VGA Planets newsgroup early this year. The discussion was about cloning. We decided that it would be more "realistic" if one were to invest time and money in back-engineering the captured space craft, distribute the plans to all one's bases, then one could build as many of those ships as required at cost. You wouldn't have to pay double for the cloning and you could fit the weapons and engines of your choice.

Research does this. It allows players to back-engineer a hull then add it to their ship list. A player can have a maximum of 20 ship types. Some races have spare slots, in which case these are used up by Research. If the player has no spare slots (such as the Feds who have 20 ship types), the Friendly Code can be used to determine which of the ships should be replaced.

As an example, if you catch hold of one of those nasty Pirate types, you could take his MBR back to base, research it, then build them yourself.
